'I want to be screened just like the pirates!': The Power of Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) Theatre to Aid Research Participation

 Research participation is an important component of advancing whole health and eliminating disparities, especially in communities facing environmental justice (EJ) issues. Though federally mandated, recruitment racial ethnic minorities can be a daunting task children even greater challenge. A range typical strategies (printed materials, word mouth, broadcast etc.) for those ethnically culturally diverse backgrounds have exhibited only limited to modest success, depending on the community being served type engagement. To date, there has been assessment use community-based participatory research (CBPR) theatre as relevant strategy.
 The ENRRICH Railyard Study used CBPR engage underserved EJ community, assess impact residential proximity major freight railyard. railyard comprised primarily low-income Hispanic families. promote participation, play – partnership between community- based organisation (CBO) university institution was produced, from design production, at two elementary schools. Following play, parental consents surveys were sent home. response immediate one largest date 74 percent participated study.
 theatre, CBO provided opportunity under-served minority their parents, thus encouraging facilitating educationon respiratory environment. This article includes experiences lessons learned using encourage study critical promoting sustainable change community.
